Mapleton Public Schools Global Academy Campus

The Global Campus in Denver, Colorado, added four new buildings to its campus: Global Primary Academy (PK-3), Global Leadership Academy (9-12), Global Intermediate Academy (4-8), and the Mapleton Arts Center. Mapleton Public Schools’ Global Campus is made up of International Baccalaureate schools where students have access to courses in foreign language, design technology, physical education, visual arts, and performing arts.

Olsson won a competitive request for proposal process to provide special inspections, building inspections, and materials testing for Global Primary Academy, a school for students in preschool through third grade.

The project required significant management of the existing site conditions and subsequent construction. We provided recommendations to the school district and its project teams to create efficiencies in the construction process while maintaining high-quality construction standards. Our team managed the special inspections, building inspections, and construction materials testing for the over-excavation, structural fill placement, shallow foundations, floor slabs, structural masonry cores, precast concrete wall panels, and structural steel components.

Our work was noticed. What started out as a project for one building soon turned into four. The district asked us to provide special inspections and materials testing for the Global Leadership Academy, Global Intermediate Academy, and the Mapleton Arts Center buildings.

In addition, when the high-swelling soils at the project site became problematic for the site flatwork, Mapleton Public Schools selected us to provide geotechnical recommendations necessary to mitigate the problem.

We also provided building inspections for the Mapleton Public Schools’ administration building and the IDEA Lab.

The Global Primary Academy and Global Leadership Academy buildings opened for the 2018-2019 school year, and the Global Intermediate Academy building opened its doors in the fall 2020. The Mapleton Arts Center is on schedule and due to be completed by the summer of 2021.

Since we started working on the school located on Mapleton’s Global Campus, Mapleton Public Schools selected Olsson to work on several other projects, including Explore PreK-8, Monterey Community School, Preschool on Poze, Valley View PreK-8, and Welby Community School.
