Designing a skatepark for all kinds of people-powered transportation

Situated on a former industrial site southwest of downtown Lincoln, Nebraska, the skatepark at Canopy Yard is a 32,000-square-foot oasis for people-powered transportation. Today, people of all ages visit with everything from skateboards and scooters to BMX bikes, wheelchairs, and inline skates.

Led by project manager and landscape architect Jennifer Seacrest, we were instrumental in bringing this space to life. After creating the master plan in 2019, we led a multidisciplinary team of architects, skatepark designers, water feature designers, and engineers to envision, design, permit, and oversee construction of both the skatepark and the surrounding Canopy Yard.

We led a multidisciplinary team of architects, skatepark designers, water feature designers, and engineers.

In addition to our overall project management, landscape architecture, and public engagement work, our services on this project included many types of engineering - civil, transportation, mechanical, audio/visual, environmental, and structural - to field services like drilling, geotechnical, and survey.

As Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird said in her opening remarks, the skatepark is the largest between Denver and Des Moines; a regional destination for riders of all kinds.
