February 26, 2020
Olsson, a nationally recognized engineering and design firm, today announced the hiring of Joe C. Johnson as regional business consultant leader. Johnson, who serves on the American Public Works Association (APWA) national board of directors, will be responsible for leading Olsson’s business development efforts in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Arkansas.
Johnson will be based in Olsson’s Overland Park, Kansas, office.
He joins Olsson after spending nearly three years as business development manager of a large engineering firm based in the Kansas City metro area. Johnson will be responsible for leading a team engaged in strengthening relationships with clients and growing the firm’s client roster.
“Joe is excited for this opportunity to lead a business development team in this region given his extensive ties to local communities and their leaders,” said Sterling Cramer, regional leader at Olsson. “Joe brings to Olsson a unique background of public service and developing relationships with business leaders, and he has extensive knowledge of the opportunities and challenges facing public infrastructure, which aligns with our strategy to grow in this area.”
Before joining the consulting industry, Johnson spent more than two decades as director of public works for the City of Leawood, Kansas, and eight years as a special projects engineer for the City of Overland Park.
He serves as director for Region VI of the APWA, overseeing a territory that stretches from Missouri to Manitoba, covering seven U.S. states and one Canadian province. Johnson has been involved extensively with the APWA, having served on the Kansas City Metro Chapter executive committee for nearly 20 years. He served as one of the co-chairs for the 2018 PWX Steering Committee and was named a top 10 Public Works Leader of the Year in 2007.
Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering at Texas A&M University; bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of Kansas; and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
