This is the largest full-service crime laboratory in the State of Nebraska. From the beginning, we assisted the state in choosing a site that would fit the unique needs of the crime laboratory. In addition to site selection, we provided mechanical and electrical engineering design, bidding, and construction administration services.

A state of the art crime laboratory requires complex mechanical and electrical systems that need to be flexible to adapt to new technologies, sustainable to reduce operational costs, and expandable to account for future additions to the building. Most importantly, provide a safe environment for the staff.

The building contains expensive and highly sensitive laboratory equipment that requires special power, ventilation, plumbing, and high-purity laboratory gas. This critical equipment also increased the need for security. High lighting demands, safety, and sustainability priorities required our teams to bring creative solutions to this design.

We did several things to ensure that the indoor shooting range located in the center of the building did not affect any of the other operations in the laboratory. This included a sound analysis to determine the proper duct routes and silencers needed to keep the range from affecting others in the building.

The Nebraska State Patrol Crime Laboratory opened its doors in October 2015 with a facility that exceeded their expectations.
